Wilderness Hiking Trips into Backcountry Basecamps | Oregon, USA
These tours into our secret outfitted wilderness basecamps in Eastern Oregon are a lower cost version of our luxury trips which use mules. Still all-inclusive, you carry your own gear and a portion of the camp provisions on your back. The hard work pays off when you enter the backcountry and have it all to yourself, with guides to fix you that classic cocktail, hand craft hearty meals, and lead activities and spur hikes on subsequent days.
Trips generally run from May - October. We recommend 2-4 nights to truly experience the wild.
Trips starting at $415 per person, per day.
These trips can also be booked without a guide. We'll make sure you have everything you need and a map to our secret camp spots so all you need to do is hike in. Inquire by email.
What to Expect:
Unlike our upscale trips where we use our expert mule packer to supply our wilderness camps, these trips rely on human power (i.e. your crew and our guides) to pack in camp supplies. We supply all the gear- backpacks, tents, pads, stoves, chairs (optional), safety equipment, games, you name it, etc. All you need to do is show up to our evening before departure packing party and learn how to pack your backpack!
On our morning of departure, meet your guides at your accommodation, pile into Sully (our adventure van), head to the trailhead for a last minute safety talk, and step into the wild.
At camp, your professional local guides turn into expert fun facilitators and camp cooks, serving hand crafted appetizers, cocktails, and campfire cooked meals, all sourced from hyper local ingredients. The main difference between the food served on these trips versus our upscale trips is that we don't have a mule to carry in the heavier fresh items. Expect a Go Wild creative twist on the typical backpacking foods (rice, dry pasta, bacon, pancakes). We guarantee you'll go to bed satisfied and full. See below for a sample menu.
During the day, explore nearby lakes on guided hikes, try your hand at fly fishing, forage for wild edible plants, or relax at camp. It's up to you. Your guides will have planned activities every day.
A note from Dan, the owner:
Hey adventurer. Our goal at Go Wild is to make the wilderness accessible, fun, and to inspire every single person that comes on one of our trips. We take the utmost care to make sure you and yours are comfortable, safe, and well fed. We allow time on our trips for relaxing under the pines, gazing at the stars, and jumping into alpine lakes. That's the stuff of memories. That's the stuff of the soul. We'll guide you from the very first email so that the entire process is as easy as can be and you can get to ditching the phone and connecting with the nature that surrounds you, your friends and family, and yourself.
Sincerely,
Dan
