Cerros de Mavecure

Packrafting, Kayaking, & Trekking Expeditions in Colombia's Backcountry

These are tours you won't find anywhere else on the internet. These are the stories to inspire, to awe, to make your mother gasp.

These tours are led by Indigenous guides because we need them to be.

Our Colombia expedition tours vary in difficulty, but all require an adventurous attitude and moderate level of physical fitness.

The Amazon | Cerros de Mavecure by Wooden Canoe or Packraft | 7-11 Days

Paddle a traditional wooden canoe or a packraft to one of the most isolated places in Colombia: the Mavecure Hills. Belonging to the Guiana shield, these 800 meter high domes rise from within the wild Amazon, along Rio Inírida, and are some of the oldest geological formations on Earth. This is not a whitewater trip, but does require basic paddling skills & training, especially for a journey by canoe.

While it’s possible to arrive by small motorboats, we choose to make the journey in one of two ways:

  1. Entirely by dugout canoe: both up and down river, for an incredible journey in the same manner in which the local Indigenous communities have traveled the river for thousands of years.

  2. By motorboat and packraft: traveling upstream to the Mavecure hills by motorboat and returning downstream by inflatable ultra-lite kayaks for a shorter overall journey.

  • WILD & UNIQUE: Experience an expedition like no other- we are the only provider of tours to Mavecure by canoe or packraft.
  • LOCAL: Indigenous guides provide necessary wayfinding and expertise during the tour for an interactive and educational experience. This is the only way to visit such a remote area and helps support local communities.
  • SWIM: With opportunities nearly every day for swimming in rivers that range in colors from bright orange to emerald green, this the perfect trip for water lovers.
  • SLEEP UNDER STARS: Depending on seasonal water levels, spend your nights camping on pristine river beaches or in nearby Indigenous communities.
  • DINE: Indigenous cooks prepare hyper-local camp grub in traditional methods (while canoeing!)
  • EXPLORE & DISCONNECT: Besides miles of wild paddling, activities include: climbing one of the Mavecure summits, swimming in spectacular rivers, fishing, & partaking in Indigenous rights and rituals

The Andes | Los Nevados Traverse | 7-10 Day Trek

Traverse the Central Andes in Los Nevados National Park for a trekking adventure that is as wildly remote as it is ecologically diverse. Unlike other Andean hikes in South America, you won’t find hoards of people here. This one is truly off-the-beaten-path.

Los Nevados National Park features 3 volcanic peaks over 16,000 feet, expansive tracks of Páramo (an uber-unique alpine moorland), geo-thermal hot springs, stunning lakes, rivers, and many endemic species of flora and fauna.

Over 7 days, we summit two volcanic peaks, relax in natural hot springs, and hike through a landscape that can only be described in a true Colombian sense as magical.
  • SIMPLE & ELEVATED: leave logistics, trip planning, safety, local knowledge, and gear considerations to us. Mules pack your gear, guides cook your meals

  • SUMMIT & SOAK: summit two volcanoes over 16000' high and reward yourself with a night camping at natural geo-thermal pools

  • LEARN: valuable mountaineering & wilderness skills, Colombian naturalist ecological and cultural interpretation by certified guides

  • WILD & REMOTE: a stunning and intimate traverse across the entire Central Andes without crowds

  • ALL GEAR INCLUDED: No need to drop big bucks at REI, we have everything in Colombia to make your backcountry trip simple and comfortable

  • DISCONNECT: explore the Andes free of distractions and connect with nature, your friends, family, and your own inner child
